Visitors to the North Show have the chance to learn life-saving skills thanks to the team from St John.

Instructors from St John Training Services and volunteers from St John Ambulance Guernsey will be demonstrating CPR at the charity’s stand on Wednesday and Thursday. People will also have a chance to win tickets for Island Rib Voyages or a voucher for Creaseys by taking part in a CPR competition.

Heather Langlois, Head of Training and Development at St John Training Services said: This is a great opportunity to teach people some basic, but life-saving skills. First aid training remains an essential skill, which we believe everyone should have. By demonstrating CPR and giving people the opportunity to get hands on we hope it will give them the confidence to help, if they find themselves facing a medical emergency with a patient who is unconscious and not breathing.

“There have been some changes to the way we teach CPR during the Covid pandemic, so the focus is on calling 999 and doing ‘hands-only’ CPR with no need to do rescue breaths.”

The St John stand will also feature an Emergency Ambulance, mobility and accessibility products from St John Healthcare and Event First Aid volunteers. Tickets for the charity’s Big Mini Lottery will also be on sale.
