In the last week, household’s in Guernsey will have received a St John Supporter Scheme Membership application leaflet. This is part of a marketing campaign to encourage islanders to join this value-for- money scheme.
If you are not a member of the St John Supporter Scheme, The St John Ambulance & Rescue Service will render a part-charge for its services to users. The charge arises because the ambulance service is not fully funded by the States of Guernsey (local Government), like the island’s other emergency services. A grant received from the States of Guernsey only covers between 60% to 70% of the emergency ambulance service costs.
A St John Supporter pays a 12 month membership fee. The usual part-charge for an emergency ambulance response is over 10 times more than the annual cost of being a St John Supporter, so the scheme offers great value for money. By becoming a member of the Supporter Scheme, you will also help provide essential services to the local community St John serves. St John is a charity, which relies on public support and donations to deliver its services to you when needed.
