This week Blue Team has been training with colleagues from Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service. The scenario involved accessing a seriously ill patient on a roof top to provide emergency treatment before safely extracting them to the ground.
The joint training built on the strong working relationships between ambulance and fire crews. It helped the teams get familiar with each services equipment and practice the principles of interoperability.

During the past few weeks we have experienced periods of high demand with ambulance crews responding to multiple calls in a short space of time.
To ensure every patient gets the appropriate response and right care, the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre uses a triage system to identify the most urgent and life threatening cases.
Category 1 and 2 calls receive a blue light response, with a target time of within 8 minutes for the most serious of cases. For Category 3 and 4 calls ambulances are deployed at road speed so we may take a little longer to arrive on scene, with a target response time of with 2 hours for Category 4 cases.
