During the past few weeks we have experienced periods of high demand with our ambulance crews responding to multiple calls in a short space of time.
To ensure every patient gets the appropriate response and right care, the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre uses a triage system to identify the most urgent and life threatening cases.
Category 1 and 2 calls receive a blue light response, with a target time of within 8 minutes for the most serious of cases. For Category 3 and 4 calls ambulances are deployed at road speed so we may take longer to arrive on scene, with a target response time of within 2 hours for Category 4 cases.
